But it works for anyone, even if you don’t have MS…give it a try in 2007

The Netxperiment Squidoo site has jumped from its original 12075 position to #6 in the overall totals. This is pretty exciting stuff.
The MySpace site has 25 friends and I haven’t even tried spamming it around yet.
I did make a post on my World Of Warcraft guild’s website about it last night (but buggered up the links and so that wasn’t much help *laughs*).
Before I came up with the idea for NetXperiment I had participated in a few fundraising efforts for MS reasearch. What you are about to see is the results of one of those efforts.
In fact it didn’t start off as fundraising at all. It started as a whole heap of trash talking on the AtomicMPC forums about the yearly footy tipping competiton I was running. Noddy (Brendon) challenged Gramyre (Me) to a winner decides the punishment type of deal-e-o. Bad luck for him he lost.
Here is what happened. This is a national television station here in Australia, so his humiliation could not be more public…apart from the fact it will now be seen by gazillions more on the internets! *maniacal laugh*
p.s. I lost the year after but managed to weasel my way out of punishment by having a MS relapse *more maniacal laughter*
This blog will occassionally have posts on the various aspects of Multiple Sclerosis, including personal stories gleaned from the internet and personal interviews.

Kaley Zeitouni was just 12-years-old when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
Her symptoms began on a typical pre-teen day. It was a holiday, and Kaley was sleeping over at a friend’s house, lightheartedly camping out in sleeping bags under the stars. When she awoke in the morning, she was sick to her stomach—and unable to walk.At first thinking she was coming down with the flu, all she wanted was her mom, Jo, by her side to do all those things that moms do to make you feel better. But, shortly after her mom arrived, Jo whisked her off to the hospital.
After seeing a battery of doctors who ran what seemed like endless tests for over a week, an MRI and a spinal tap ultimately showed a definitive MS diagnosis.

Icreasingly, as diagnosis methods become more sophisticated, children are learning they have MS. This is not only devastating for the child, but for the entire family that has to learn to cope with the fact that someone so young has an incurable disease.
We need a cure NOW to ensure diagnoses of a child is not a life sentence of grief for the whole family

Amazing news and so exciting! It was pointed out to me that The Great NetXperiment Squidoo page is ranked #1 philanthropy lens on Squidoo.
Squidoo in Seth Godin’s (co-founder) words
“When I conceived of Squidoo in March of 2005, my goal was to build an engine for philanthropy, a self-sustaining website that would make it easy for ordinary folks with passion and expertise to raise money for charity. At the same time, I hoped it would provide a platform for individuals and organizations to expose their ideas, their businesses and their expertise to the world at large.”
To be ranked number 1 in the very area that this whole Web2.0 site was conceived is very exciting as well as quite humbling.

Just over 48 hours into the Great NetXpriment and we have visitors from all round the world already! Plenty of the globe still to cover though…wonder what this map will look like when we reach $1 Million.
It is a stunning day here in Sydney this Boxing Day. Traditionally in Australia Boxing day means the start of two huge sporting events The Sydney To Hobart Yacht Race and the first day of the Boxing Day Test (cricket test match). Boxing day is probably my favourite day of the year.
This year Boxing Day is even more special as we move into Day 2 of the Great NetXperiment. Today marks the start of really getting the word out to the internet about the existance of this challenge.
I only realised this morning that I hadn’t put the visitor tracking info into the home page after we updated it so we missed all of the launch day’s information. Oh well

Season’s Greetings from My Family to Yours

And remember, for that person that has EVERYTHING why not buy them a piece of internet history and put their name into the Contributor Cloud
This would probably be the ultimate guessing competition.
How long will it take for the Internet to contribute $1 Million to the Great NetXperiment?
I have absolutly no idea whether it will be days, weeks or months. What i do know is, once momentum is up then there will be no way it won’t reach $1 Million. It will be an unstoppable force!
So leave a comment here with your guess as to how long it will take and I will organise a prize for the person/community or business that gets it right.
